Reflecting On Life…

Processed with VSCOcam with b3 presetThis is not a technology posting, so please forgive me while I reflect on life, and what we make important. I am reminded of how we need to do this as I am, at age 46, watching people I know and love in the flight for their life with cancer or other serious illnesses. All of a sudden as the gray hair starts to show up and my beard requires a little “touch up” I find myself looking in the mirror. Continue reading “Reflecting On Life…”

Amazon S3 Breaks the Internet

The headline says all that needs to be said…the Amazon S3 outage broke the Internet yesterday. The headlines were all over the place, but none of the stories were good. One of them was particularly harsh pointing at how the outage showed how poor the DR strategy is for many companies who went down as a result of the outage. I could not agree more. Might I suggest that if you were impacted by the Amazon outage you should consider Nutanix, and build your own Cloud internally.  Continue reading “Amazon S3 Breaks the Internet”

Delta Airlines + Technology = WIN!

This deltamorning I sit at my laptop in the Delta Sky Club in the A Terminal at the Atlanta airport. I had planned to be just waking up in my med at home today after a long day trip to Raleigh. However, the flight delay gods were to have something else planned, and, well…here I am. Continue reading “Delta Airlines + Technology = WIN!”

Now THAT is Easy

Teasyhis article is dedicated to the art of making things simple, and the good folks in Seattle at Amazon.com. They have really tapped into desire of people to be as lazy as possible over the past two weeks has taken “easy” to a new level. I am talking about how easy they have made shopping, delivery and return on things bought on Amazon.com. Now please don’t mistake Amazon.com with Amazon Web Services (Amazon’s Cloud known as AWS) because while Amazon.com is stupid simple, AWS is anything but. Continue reading “Now THAT is Easy”

Season Three of HBO’s Silicon Valley continued to build on two solid seasons and drawing more fans. For those of us who actually work in tech, I think we can appreciate the humor more than your average non-tech crowd. I have said on more than one occasion that the show mimicked real life in more ways than one, and that when you study the challenged that the crew of Pied Piper has to overcome, it is not unlike the challenges real-life tech firms face on a daily basis. When I sat down with Sudheesh Nair, President of Nutanix, Inc. he said “Hyperconvergence was never the end game. It was simply a pitstop on the journey.” He could not have said it any better. Accept Your Situation (Two Weeks in Beijing)

Mr BaseballOne of my most favorite movies of all time has to be the 1992 baseball film “Mr Baseball” staring Tom Selleck (Jack Elliot) and Aya Takanashi (Hiroko Uchiyama). I really didn’t intend to see the film, but when I was sent to Japan for two years my mom suggested insisted that I watch it. I’m glad I did actually, because from the time I got off the plane at Narita until the time I left, I could hear the words of Hiroko Uchiyama…”Accept your situation“. That was more than twenty years ago and it was my first trip to the Far East. Fast forward to 2016. “Accept your situation” still rings true in China. ALL of it. The Power of Social Media

InternetThere are some posts that I write after taking notes, researching, interviewing and basically, spending hours so you have good content to read. This one is different. This one is my personal experience with the horror that is Verizon Frontier FiOS, my Twitter rant, BrightHouse Charter Networks reading the rant and coming to the rescue. This is my experience in moving from Frontier to Charter, complete via Twitter and with NOTHING lacking in the process. Continue reading “The Power of Social Media”
